Operation of SafeMate

How does SafeMate work?

SafeMate is a digital emergency management system that provides paramedics and other first responders with medical information that could assist them in a crisis. After purchasing a SafeMate device, you are required to enter the medical information that you would like to be available to paramedics in the case of an emergency. The first responder will then have the ability to scan your SafeMate device and provide fast and effective treatment.

What type of information should I provide SafeMate with?

Basic personal details (e.g. name, age, gender) and any health information you want a paramedic to be aware of in the case of a medical emergency.

Can I change or add information at any time?

Yes, we understand that your personal details and medical information will change over time so you can update these at any stage by logging into your SafeMate account at

Can someone else enter my details for me?

Yes, you can enlist the help of someone you trust by providing them with your account details and password.

Where does my SafeMate device work?

At this stage the Queensland Ambulance Service has the ability to access the information on SafeMate devices (mobile coverage dependent). However, we expect other states in Australia will follow soon!

What kind of device can I purchase?

SafeMate services are available in the form of a card and a wristband at this stage. These can both be purchased from our website. We’ll be adding additional devices in the months to come, so check the site regularly.

What happens if I lose my SafeMate device?

If your SafeMate device goes missing you can order a replacement by emailing or giving us a call on (02) 8977 4016


How can I be sure my medical details are completely secure?

Your information is hosted in a HIPAA-compliant (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) secure environment in Australia.

SafeMate utilises a combination of online and offline security technologies, procedures and organisational measures to help safeguard consumer information against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration and destruction.

We employ Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) data encryption when data is transmitted over the internet to our website and have installed layered firewalls and other security technologies to help prevent unauthorised access to our systems. Our servers are also maintained in a secure environment with appropriate security measures.

Who has access to my medical information?

Only paramedics and other professional first responders are able to view the medical information that you provide.

Is SafeMate connected to My Health Record?

No. You have the ability to provide SafeMate with the medical information that you want to be available to a paramedic or other professional first responder.

How can I be sure that someone else isn’t trying to pass themselves off as me?

A password is required each time you login to your SafeMate account. You’ll also be prompted to upload a photo of yourself so that you are easily identifiable in an emergency situation.


Can I get SafeMate for one month only?

Yes. When you purchase a SafeMate product you have the option to select a monthly or annual subscription.

Can I get SafeMate for one event only?
